Default SCSA for Solaris Easy way to learn

Hi guys i am compiling small time tutorials on the SCSA for Solaris 10 exam that will help Newbei's on understanding some few basics so as to catch up with SOLARIS 10.

I hope These Will Help.

Before we can describe file systems, it's important that you understand how Solaris views the disk drives and various other hardware components on your system.Under SOLARIS one of the most Important and Involved Unix Device to understand is the disk device file.

Foristance what is the difference between slices and partitions in Solaris OS?

My Answer,I think from the example below would be

>> c0t0d0s0 - c0t0d0s7
>> c0t1d0s0 - c0t1d0s7
>> c0t2d0s0 - c0t2d0s7
>> c0t3d0s0 - c0t3d0s7

"c" is the controller number,
"t" and "d" are the disk number and
"s" is the slice on a disk.

Here You have four disks in /dev/dsk

c0t0d0, c0t1d0, c0t2d0 and c0t3d0.Right!!!!! of which probably ONE is an HDD and then a CDROM etc.

On most machines
"s0" is the system partition,
"s1" is the swap partition
"s7" is /export/home and
"s3" to "s6" are unused.

But remember you can change this sclicing/partitioning scheme during the Solaris 10 installation.

Great i hope to add on NEXT TIME.
